Frequently Asked Questions

What is the quality of Coco substrate that I need for each plant?

Obviously the answer deviates from crop to crop. For example the volume of Coco needed for a tomato plant is about 5-6 liters. The volume of Coco needed for a strawberry plant is about 0.7-1 liter. There are also some other parameters to consider, like the irrigation system, climate and length of growing period. It is highly recommended to consult with our agronomic staff before making a decision.

How many irrigating cycle are needed in one day?

Unlike other Hydroponic systems the answer is more flexible. There are a few variables that determine the answer.

  1. The type of Coco. For example in a given green House the 3/4″ material will need less cycles then Crush.
  2. The climate. A hot climate will obligate more frequent irrigating cycles.
  3. The stage of growth. As the plant grow its need for water supply increase. In order to answer the growing  demand  for water more irrigation should be applied (In some cases this growing demand can be answered by increasing the time of each cycle without increasing the number of cycles per day).
  4. System limitation. In some big farms there are a lot of irrigating valves. Sometimes increasing the number of cycles in one valve will restrict the ability to irrigate with another valve.

The decision about the number of cycles per one day should include all the parameters that are mentioned above.

Why should I buy Pelemix’s Coir-Cocopeat and not others?

  1. Pelemix will not use pre mature raw material.
  2. Pelemix has double sieving facilities which enable the company to remove the fine dust and guarantee that air content will be around 20%. Most Coir-Cocopeat producers are not aware of the importance of double sieving.
  3. Pelemix’s growbags weight more than it’s competitors and therefore the colume of the growbags is not reduced dramatically during crop period.
  4. Pelemix is using thicker plastic for its products and guarantees a longer tern of use.
  5. In order to help its customers, Pelemix gives periodical agronomy visits to give growers professional advice.

For how many years can I use the Coco?

Pelemix does not use premature raw materials (not counting the crush & chips). Therefore Pelemix Coir products will last much longer then the products of other companies. While using growbags the limitation of use is determined by the plastic quality. Even when using growbags with plastic for 3 years the plastic will start to disintegrate long before the Coco will decompose.

As for the Coco itself the material will start to lose its characteristics after about 3-4 years (not counting the crush & chips). The best way to determine if the Coco should be replaced is by testing its physical characteristics in a trustworthy laboratory.

What fertilizers should be applied with irrigation?

Unlike the soil a soilless substrate doesn’t contain the nutrients that are essential for plant growth. Therefore all nutrients should be supplied through irrigation. It is normally recommended to use at least two tanks for different fertilizers and another one for acid.
